I have been watching Hell On Wheels on AMC and rather impressed. Very well historically researched, and I am getting hooked. However, I keep staring at the actor who plays Bohannon, and wondering where I has seen him before. Now I know why he seems hauntingly familiar!

I don't care if you are religious or not. Christmas is not about religion for many, it is and should be about Peace On Earth and Goodwill Toward Man. It's sad that isn't carried out throughout the whole year.

2010 was very rough year for me. It started with a house fire where I nearly died. Then later the aftermath, healing and finding a new home. Then my husband nearly died. It wasn't easy. But 2012 is promising me good things. New book coming out shortly, new publisher, new home I love.

So I am wishing you all that promise of a better 2012 and hope all your dreams come true.

Scotland, 1297

“My lady,” her maidservant, Cadha, had inquired through the kerchief held to her nose, “Are you unwell?”

Gillian hesitated in answering. Something was different and she was at a loss to say precisely what. She had experienced the sensation before. The kenning. When the air seemed stifling and her vision held a faint rippling of colors at the edge, those sensations presaged that something very vital was about to happen. Oft, she experienced these things when she was dosing for a well; the closer she got to locating the hidden source of water, the stronger the undulating swirl of reds, greens and yellows grew until her vision drew down to a narrow range.

Only she wasn’t dousing for water, but simply staring at the Douglas pennon, while she waited for her soldiery to fetch their mounts. Was it something about the standard that drew the focus of this extra sense, an ability which touched the women of the Ogilvie line? All through the Highlands had heard about the brash, handsome Douglas lord who had carried off his English bride. Such tales of daring, love and romance! Now, his mighty banner seemed so sad hanging there, treated with such disrespect.

“My lady, the captain brings forth your mount.” Cadha reached out and touched Gillian’s sleeve. “Put the cloth to your nose. It helps. Just take slow shallow breaths. We will soon be out of this…this…”

There were no words created to describe this hell. It sickened her. Not just the vile remnants of months old battle, but the fact people perpetrated these atrocities upon their fellow man. Death was bad enough, a waste of life that served little purpose she could see. People killed to survive. A fact of this world she had long ago accepted. But this was not for survival. It was simply the will of an English king—and for what? To have a bigger kingdom? There was no pride or honor in what was done to the Scots that had merely defended their homes, their families. Thousands of men, women and children—children—had perished here, and no amount of quicklime could wash away the crime, the sin of Berwick.

“There is no name for what this place now is, Cadha,” Gillian replied. “‘Tis an offense methinks Edward Longshanks shall yet live to regret.”

Walking to the mounting block, Gillian allowed her captain of the guard to aid her in getting upon her Bay palfrey. She could have chosen to ride in the cart with Cadha, but she preferred sitting on the back on a horse to having her insides bounced around. Hooking her leg around the horn of the sidesaddle, she nodded that she was ready to set out.

Two outriders were followed by four knights, riding before her, and then the cart with the baggage and Cadha trailed just behind. Eight paid Irish hobelars would bring up the rear. In ordinary times, they could travel safe enough with this small of a force. Only, there were bands of brigands on the roads since the spring. Many serfs refused to go home to their masters after the battle of Dunbar. Instead, they hid out in the lesser traveled areas, causing problems for the English forces, and seeing many areas riven with violence. Some brigands were not so principled and attacked Scots as well. Still, she had not dared take any more defenders away from Lochstorr. She needed a strong presence there to hold in her absence.

As they had ridden along the charred remains of the area surrounding the Red Hall, she purposely kept her eyes on the back of her sergeant. There served little purpose in filling her head with the gruesome specter arrayed on Edward’s command. Shallow breaths failed to help, so she was forced to bring the kerchief to her nose. The scent saturating the cloth was mugwort. Auld Bessa spake that the wort was a good protection for a traveler, would shield them against wild beasts, fatigue and poisons. Well, the air was poisoned, so she supposed Cadha had chosen well.

When her party neared the edge of the dead town, suddenly, someone began yelling―a rider coming toward them―followed by more chevaliers and lancers. “Make way! Make way, I say!”

Her troop moved to the side of the roadway as it was clear the force, traveling fast, was not about to slow or give way. Two bannerets with small flags flying were behind the rider calling out, then a rider holding a large pennon.

Fascinated, Gillian watched the large flag rippling as the riders drew closer, the black field rather fitting in this town of death. There were two splashes of brilliant color—scarlet and gold―but she could not tell what the crest was. Her vision darkened as the kenning had slammed into her, the vibration thrumming through her body to where she felt faintly sick. Never had the gift been this strong. She swallowed hard against the sensations buffeting her; even so, she could not tell what was causing the disturbance. The banner? She gawked as it drew closer, until it was nearly alongside of her. Then, the coat of arms became plain to her. Two dragons rampant, facing each other as if locked in a mighty battle.

She leaned toward the knight riding beside her and asked, “Whose device is on that banner?”

The man swallowed hard, grimacing from the smell, before answering. “’Tis new to me, my lady. The red dragon on black is the device of the king’s left hand, but that one with a golden dragon…well, I am not sure. Edward’s new standard he flies before towns is a dragon gold. I do not think anyone would dare to use it, so this must be someone of great import.”

Choking on the smell, she raised the scented kerchief to her nose, and breathed in the scent desperately.

Behind the banner came two columns. At the fore were two knights on black steeds. No, that was not right. One was a dark gray, so dark that it was nearly black, reminding her of mouse’s fur. Beautiful, majestic animals, riding hard. The horsemen were in black mail and plate. The one on the far side wore a surcoat of deepest green, but she could barely take note of his features since her eyes had remained locked onto the rider closest. He was dressed in a black surcoat, with a red dragon on his chest. He wore no helm, no coif, so his wavy black hair was moved by the breeze. Obviously, he was one of Edward’s Norman knights, yet his locks were not cut in the Norman style.

For an instant, his head turned, his eyes only vaguely running over the small Scottish party decamping the town. The world held its breath. Her heart pounded in her ears, beating out a tattoo, as her eyes met his. Dark eyes, yet from the distance she could not tell their shade. A breathless magic spun around them making it seem as if they were the only two people in the whole town.

The spell shattered as he put spurs to his steel gray charger and moved on.

Gillian could almost smell the scent of mugwort, as she lay trembling in Redam’s embrace. The two dragons on a field of black. The images she had seen in the bowl when she had asked Annis for answers. Could that be? That she had seen this knight on that hot August morn? The irony struck her. If it had been Redam under the pennon of the double dragons, then he would little remember her.

She had held the scented kerchief to her face as he’d ridden past.

Could life have been that strange? That cruel?

Revenge—that was Trev’s goal when he first set his sights on Raven. And a delicious revenge it would be. He and his two brothers had each selected a Montgomerie sister to systematically seduce and destroy, and this quiet granddaughter of his enemy was perfect. She lived simply in a cottage in the English countryside, a painter, and socialized only with gypsies and a menagerie of misfits: her fat orange tabby, her one-legged seagull and midget pony. And in addition to beauty, Raven had a delicious vulnerability begging to be exploited. Trev was happy to oblige. In fact, it felt like destiny.

Magic and fate have brought a self-proclaimed wolf to Colford Hall. He’s dressed in a designer suit, drives a Lamborghini Murciélago and apologizes for nothing. And though Trev doesn’t realize it, wolves mate for life.

This is the third book in Deborah MacGillivray's Sisters of Colford Hall Series and it is an enchanting read. The characters are so well depicted they become a part of you as you read this light comedy mixed with emotional drama. You will cry one minute, laugh the next. There is, of course, the usual cat that always graces her books, along with a quirky animal menagerie. A one-legged seagull who is the bane of the hero is just one example.

The story begins with an determined Trevelyn Merchan [disguised as Trevelyn Sinclair] out to destroy the Montgomerie family empire by using Raven, a beautiful and reclusive artist. He finds it easier said than done when he begins to fall in love with the beauty.

Raven, however, is fighting hard to keep her own attraction at bay—a self-protective shield kicking in despite the handsome hero's charms. Charms which even her wary family appear to fall for.

The convoluted but heavenly tale of love and laughter is conveyed with indisputable flair, something I've come to expect from Deborah MacGillivray.

Beautifully detailed, warm, and inviting, I could cozy up with Ms. MacGillivray’s books no matter the season, this one just happens to be perfect for winter. Deborah Macgillivray always adds a dramatic flair to her storylines that captures the imagination and keeps you smiling through each page of her books.

While it’s certainly not necessary to read all the DRAGONS OF CHALLON books in order to enjoy ONE SNOWY KNIGHT, the other stories are just as delightful so I’d recommend picking them up as well.

Trevelyn's association with Raven may have started out as an extension of the revenge plot dreamed up by his older brother, but he's falling in love with her.

Raven Montgomerie may have come from a wealthy background but her life is far from glamorous. She chooses to live in a thatched house on her family estate with a toy pony, a one-legged seagull and two fat cats. She loves her family but she prefers the privacy for her painting. At one time she had dreams of marriage and a family but her divorce and subsequent miscarriage put an end to that desire. The last thing she expects is for her belated birthday gift, a mechanical ofisa (Romani for fortunate teller booth), to be so eerily accurate in her predictions. "Beware of the wolf in sheep's clothing" is printed on the Lovers card, the first card she receives from the gypsy. Torn between ignoring the card and heeding it's warning, Raven opts to worry about it later but once she catches sight of a man who sends shivers down her spine and she simply knows that this is the wolf the gypsy foretold.

Trevelyn squeezes into Raven's life rather simply. First by saving her from Alec's, her ex-husband, nasty verbal attack at the gala to raise money for a children's orphanage, then he outbid Alec on a beautiful rocking horse that obviously held a great deal of importance to Raven. He liken himself to the big bad wolf in the fairy tale sent to gobble up Red and he and Raven even joke about the similarities between them and the fable. The attraction between them is undeniable and Raven caves in to her desire to invite Trevelyn to her bed. Trevelyn is quickly drawn into Raven's life and even her pets adore him so how can he possibly in good conscious continue with the plan to destroy her family? And if he doesn't follow through with it then how will his brothers react.

A WOLF IN WOLF'S CLOTHING is the third installment in Deborah Macgillivray's SISTERS OF COLFORD HALL series. Trevelyn and Raven's relationship is playful yet poignantly sweet while maintaining an emotional connection that I adored. The secondary characters, including Raven's pets, brought a smile to my face and kept me chuckling at their antics. Ms. Macgillivray incorporates all the elements that bring a story to life for readers - humor, a bit of the paranormal, a few tears, a beautiful romance and plenty of family dynamics. A WOLF IN WOLF'S CLOTHING is a wonderful addition to a series which has already captured my heart and earned a place on the keeper shelf.

Trevelyn Sinclair Mershan understands what it feels like to be schizoid. His goal set by his older brother years ago has been to destroy the Montgomerie family whom he holds culpable for the suicide of his father. However, he has a slight problem as his heart tells him to modify his goal and go after Raven Montgomerie.

She haunts him 24/7. He plans to stay the course by ruining Raven. However, obstinate as he is, the Auld Souls intercede as do an odd mechanical gypsy fortuneteller. Trev feels like a traitor as he is deeply in love with the enemy while invading her home Colford Hall.

The third Mershan brother contemporary romance (see INVASION OF FALGANNON ISLE and RIDING THE THUNDER) is an enjoyable tale that runs time-wise parallel to the stories of Trev's siblings; thus he feels remorse and guilt at the same time love because ironically unlike the readers he is unaware that his older brother, who has planned their revenge for years, has the same predicament. A WOLF IN WOLF'S CLOTHING is a terrific finish to an engaging trilogy; kudos to Deborah MacGillivray who stayed consistent throughout the saga yet also entertaining.

Review: A WOLF IN WOLF’S CLOTHING

The third Mershan brother, Trevelyn, is determined to do his part in the revenge plot of taking down the Montgomerie clan by romancing one of the daughters, Raven, and getting close to her brother and father while he buys out the controlling interest in their family company. Trev was not prepared to fall totally under the enchanting Raven’s spell, however.

Raven has always been the naive one in the family but after being burnt by her ex-husband she is leery when the sinfully handsome Trevelyn shows an interest in her. She is no match for his charms though, and ends up in his arms and in bed with him despite the mechanical gypsy’s warning about a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Trev and Raven both seem to recognize a familiarity with each other and Trev’s waking dreams are cautioning him that this time around he should be more careful with Raven’s heart.

Creative Deborah MacGillivray always tells a great story and this book is no exception as she skillfully weaves her plot to include aspects and characters from the first books in the Sisters of Colford Hall series. Darkly dangerous Trevelyan is a true alpha hero and he meets his match in the seductively bewitching Raven. The subtle paranormal elements are real enough to send shivers down the spine and spur anticipation of what will happen next. Allusions to fairy tales, gypsies and unusual pets including a one legged pelican, a miniature horse and Ms. MacGillivray’s trademark cats add a bit of light hearted wit. A WOLF IN WOLF’S CLOTHING is an entertaining stand alone book but why deprive yourself the treat of the first two books in the Sisters of Colford Hall series, THE INVASION OF FALGANNON ISLE and RIDING THE THUNDER? Also, a fortune telling gypsy has foretold of a fourth book in this beguiling series in the near future.

Deborah MacGillivray’s third book in the Sisters of Colford Hall series, A Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing, is nothing short of spectacular! I loved her use of animal characters, the cats, the miniature pony, and especially her one legged pelican, Atticus. Every time I read one of Ms. MacGillivray’s books I am filled with a sense of love, and complete connection with the hero and heroine. Once I read that very last page, I instantly want more and know that there are more books to come. My review can not do this book justice. I didn’t even speak of the Gypsy family that visits Colford, the vampire hunter/Gypsy Brishen, and the complete change in both Raven and Trev. Those my dears, are something you must find out for yourself. 5 Hearts

***** FIVE STARS! Though this is the third book in the "Dragons of Challon" series, you do not have to read the previous titles to fully enjoy the story. The previous titles (A Restless Knight & In Her Bed) are about Skena's cousins. Each title is a stand-alone story. Those who have read the first two stories will feel as though they already know a bit about the main characters' personalities. The author made Noel and Skena even more real to me by giving the couple their own private jokes. (After all, every close couple I know have their own humorous quotes that makes them grin at each other or laugh, yet no one around them knows what is so funny.) These little touches endear the characters to me.

As with any good book, there is at least one villain so sneaky and vile that I could not help but love to hate. For me, this makes a book more interesting. I love it when I see the villain do horrible things to the heroine, because it makes me enjoy their capture so much more. This is a terrific addition to the "Dragons of Challon" series and I am happy to recommend it to fans of historical romances! *****

Trevelyan (Sinclair) Mershan is a man on a mission. His mission…revenge. Along with his brothers, Trevelyan is dead set on bringing down the Montgomerie family by seducing then destroying the “meddling Montgomerie” sisters. He has his sights zeroed in on Raven Montgomerie, the beautiful, quiet, and most vulnerable of the sisters.

Raven Montgomerie prefers the quiet life of painting and socializing with gypsies in the English countryside. While she could live in luxury, she chose to live in the estate cottage rather than in the main house of Colford Hall. However she doesn’t live alone. She shares the beautiful country cottage with an odd menagerie of pets; two cats named Chester and Pyewacket, a one-legged seagull named Atticus, and a lively miniature pony named Marvin. (I love these names!)

What Raven needs is a knight in shining armor. Little does this timid woman know, her knight will be riding into her life in a shining Lamborghini Murciélago. Then when Raven and Trevelyan first meet, sparks ignite a fire and the instant he touches her, their fates are sealed.

In this third installment of the Sisters of Colford Hall series, I found myself completely absorbed in the story of Raven and Trevelyan! I have read the other two in the series and even though I completely enjoyed them, I have to say A Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing is by far my favorite! A magical love story that even includes a ghost named Annie. (Great name!)

Ms. MacGillivray has a talent for creating stories that clutch the hearts of her readers and in A Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing, you won’t be disappointed. She has woven a tale of passion, love, and desire that grips you from the first page to the very end.

The Mershan brothers plot to take over the Montgomerie clan by seducing the sisters, while quietly buying up all the stock in the family's company, is finally in the final stretch. Trevelyn's focus on destroying the relatives of the man who ruined his life as a child is all he has concentrated on for as long as he can remember. For his part, Trevelyn has chosen Raven, the eccentric artist sister. However, to his dismay, he is more interested than he wants to be in her, and the fates seem to have a hand in pushing them together. He is unable to resist the powers- that-be to become her knight-in-shining-armor.

Raven Montgomerie is unlike the rest of her family with their designer clothes and fancy cars and reside in the large manor on their estate. She lives in the cottage by herself with her unusual collection of pets and her artwork, perfectly happy driving an old MG that runs only sometimes. For the past weeks, she has put all of her time and energy in a charity auction her family is putting on for a local orphanage. Now that the big night is here, she receives a unique fortune teller machine for a birthday gift, but the fortune it tells is confusing -- until a mysterious man becomes her saving grace.

I am sooooooo excited!! A Wolf in Wolf's Clothing is released today, so it will be hitting the shelves soon. This is the third book in the Sister of Colford Hall™ series. The nice thing about them is the first three books (Invasion of Falgannon Isle, December 2006, and Riding the Thunder, October 2007) can be read in any order.

I just had some much with Raven and Trev's romance. It's the last of the Mershan brother's series, but never fear, there are more Montgomerie Sisters and more stories head. To Bell The Vampire is coming up next!

Here, Raven can paint in solitude and hide away from the world while doting on her menagerie of pets. The two fat cats, midget pony, and one-legged sea gull are the only companions she desires. But after Trev manages to storm into her heart and her bed, Raven finds herself coming out of her shell.

***** FIVE STARS! This is the third installment of the "Sisters of Colford Hall ™" saga. All three of the stories run in the same time frame. It does not matter in what order you read them, but if you wish to read them in order of publication: One is "The Invasion of Falgannon Isle” and is the story of Desmond and BarbaraAnne. Two is "Riding the Thunder” and is the story of Jago and Asha.

One thing I enjoy about this series thus far is the setting changes. The first book is on an isolated isle, the second is in Kentucky, USA, and this one is in a small fictional town near London, England. The author inserts humor into them as well. In this one, Trev is allergic to the two cats, the black mini pony keeps breaking into the cottage and loves to be chased by humans, and the one-legged sea gull thinks it is a cat but enjoys pecking on Trev's bare toes. I fell totally in love with these animals.

For those who enjoy some suspense, the ex-husband causes lots of danger and trouble due to his hatred of Raven and of Trev for defending her from his bullying. There is also some eerie magic. The booth's fortune teller looks very life-like. No one can figure out how the booth makes its special affects and the fortunes she pops out are always spot-on. She gives ominous warnings that are totally correct every single time. When I saw the gypsy doll for the last time, I actually felt a chill go down my spine. I have yet to succeed in getting THAT scene out of my head.

Needless-to-say, I believe this title is the author's absolute best story to date. It flows smoothly, all the characters are will developed and have their own personalities and problems, and the writing style is superb. I can hardly wait for the 2010 release of "To Bell a Vampire”, Brishen's tale. Author Deborah MacGillivray gets better and better with each story she puts out. *****

Trevelyn Sinclair Mershan is one of three brothers who have a plan. Years ago their father committed suicide due to Sean Montgomerie causing the Mershan family to become extremely poor. Though Sean recently died, the Mershans are preparing to do a hostile takeover of the Montgomerie businesses. To get closer to the family, each brother is going after one of the Montgomerie sisters. Trevelyn is posing as Trevelyn Sinclair, a wealthy businessman who has decided to work out of the small town the Montgomeries live in.

Raven Montgomerie is a divorced painter that lives on the edge of her family’s estate in a smallish thatch cottage. She shares her cottage with a couple of cats, a one leg seagull and a miniature horse. She’s content with her life and has no desire to date or become involved in the Montgomerie business ventures. The one thing she does do is attend a gala for orphans. As part of the decorations, Raven has lent her birthday present from one of her sisters, a mechanical gypsy tarot card reader. When she puts her coins in to see if its working, her card warns her to beware of a wolf.

Raven’s ex shows up at the gala with his very pregnant new wife and starts by harassing Raven. Trevelyn comes to the rescue by appearing to be Raven’s late arriving date. Could Trevelyn be the wolf Raven was warned about especially when he calls her Red Riding Hood?

Trevelyn finds Raven is more than a means to a goal but can he stop the plan that he and his brothers have already started? Are the tarot cards that Raven and Trevelyn connected to their lives or are they just a coincidence? What are these flashbacks that Trevelyn suddenly gets? Will love or family win out?

This was such a fun book to read. The characters were very well done. The situations that they found themselves in were believable. The feelings expressed were perfect.

The characters had depth. Raven and Trevelyn had interactions with their families as well as each other giving a very well rounded feel to them. They weren’t perfect people either making them easy to relate to. Raven’s large family played a significant role in this story and though there were lots of characters each had their own personality allowing readers to distinguish them from each other. Even the tarot card reader seemed to have a major role in the story and interacted with Raven and Trevelyn. Could she really predict the future?

Who hasn’t had someone make them uncomfortable in a social setting or done something they wish they hadn’t? These types of situations are found throughout this story and they make the characters feel as though they could be one of us. Trevelyn is even allergic to Raven’s cats! These everyday fallacies keep this story real.

Poor Trevelyn is being pulled between his growing feelings towards Raven and his loyalty towards his brother. He gets further stressed as his mother lies at death’s door and he needs to leave Raven behind and deal with his brothers. To add a little comic relief, Raven’s youngest sister is after one of Raven’s best friends, a very talented Gypsy.

This was a fantastic story that I really enjoyed. Due to the way it was written, I’m assuming that this is not the last time that we’ve seen the Mershan brothers. It seems that Trevelyn’s brothers are having their own issues with Raven’s sisters.

Coming books.......

Kensington books has slotted the fourth book in the Dragon of Challon™ series for September, 2010. It's tenatively called REDEMPTION, and follows the half-brothers and foster brothers of Julian Challon. It bit darker than the previous books, but then I love to see each book has their own "tone"

As well, the 4th in the Sisters of Colford Hall™ has will be out in 2010 as well. TO BELL THE VAMPIRE will continue the loves of the Montgomerie sisters. Alas, no more sexy Mershan males to do battle with, but I am sure there will be some poor males the remaining sisters can turn in circles!

The saddest part of ageing is seeing the ones we adored pass. Patrick McGoohan was a hero of mine. I recall watching him when I was so small, first at The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, then as sauve John Drake in Danger Man/Secret Agent, then in the highly imaginative The Prisoner in the late 1970s. No single small series has ever generated such discussion and debate.

McGoohan was a rogue. Refused the offer of play James Bond, often professed he didn't indugle in vices on screen that he didn't do off screen. I laughed, wondering if that included murder, as he had managed a few of those over the years.

McGoohan was bloody handsome, with intense blue eyes, but it was the intelligence behind those eyes that captured the attention.

I can only say in his passing, I am deeply saddned.
